Souli

Souli is located on a small plain, at the top of a steep hill, 600 meters above the bed of the river Acheron. A steep and challenging path descends to the river, while behind it rises an imposing chain of mountains.
The Community of Souli borders the Municipality of Paramythia to the North, the Prefecture of Preveza to the South, Ioannina to the East, and the Municipality of Acheronto to the West.
It consists of Avlotopos (Glavitsa), Koukoulioi, Samoniva, Tsagari, and Frosyni (Karystiani) communities, and its total population is 926 people.
Record
The modern Community of Souli was founded on 01.01.1999 with the "Kapodistrias" program, precisely 196 years after the abandonment of the historical "Souliotiki Sympoliteia" (on December 12, 1803).
The "Soulio Commonwealth" consisted of the villages of Souli, Samoniva, Kiafa, Avarikos, Tsekourati, Perehati, Vilia, Alpohori, Kontates, Gionala, and Roussiatsa, which were located at the foot of the Kassiopi mountains and which were created by the arrival in these places of many hunted by the Christian Turks (around 1550).
In 1956, Souli declared a preserved settlement, and the new houses were built on the model of the older ones under the supervision of the Byzantine Antiquities Tax Office of Ioannina.
